PRIDE Industries is a fast-paced company with a mission to create jobs for people with disabilities. This Carpenter position is on a federal AbilityOne contract that requires most work hours performed by employees with disabilities.

The carpenter performs duties necessary to the maintenance and good repair of building woodwork and equipment. Typical tasks include using hand and power tools, woodworking machines, levels, routers, sanders, saws, and squares, measuring and cutting materials, and assembling and fastening materials.

Additional duties include installing structures and fixtures such as windows, frames, flooring, trim, and hardware, as well as building, removing, or repairing cabinets, doors, ceilings, floors, and roofs. The carpenter also applies finishing touches by sanding, staining, and painting, and inspects own work to ensure quality standards.

The role involves following safety rules and regulations, diagnosing problems, and communicating with customers about work performed. This position offers the opportunity to apply skilled carpentry in a mission-driven environment while supporting employment for people with disabilities.

Requirements

One year work experience in carpentry, or demonstrated knowledge and ability to properly use tools of the trade.
Mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and measurement of dimensions.
May be required to own, use, and maintain tools at work.
Ability to manage and accurately track material resources and time, and adapt to changing work priorities.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to follow established safety rules and regulations.
Effective communication skills to give and request information, and respond to customers, vendors, management, and co-workers.
Must be a person with a disability as required by the federal AbilityOne contract.

Responsibilities

Use carpenter’s tools including hand and power tools, woodworking machines, levels, routers, sanders, saws, and squares.
Measure and mark cutting lines on materials; shape or cut materials to specified measurements.
Assemble and fasten materials; install structures and fixtures such as windows, frames, flooring, trim, and hardware.
Build, remove, or repair cabinets, flooring, doors, windows, screens, locks, frameworks, and other wooden fixtures.
Erect scaffolding and ladders to assemble structures; check building elements for damage.
Apply finishing touches by sanding, staining, and painting; inspect own work for quality.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; document service orders with actions and progress notes.
Read blueprints, sketches, or building plans; lay out projects and determine dimensions and materials required.
