About this role

The Construction Manager will perform inspections and surveillance of difficult and complex construction projects, ensuring compliance with approved plans and specifications. This position is contingent upon award and requires the ability to obtain and maintain a valid US Government security clearance to be retained in the position.

Day-to-day duties include performing inspections of major segments of projects, including materials, installation, and testing of complex electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. The role involves coordinating with representatives on work scheduling, interpreting plans, and resolving problems or conflicts in specifications to ensure compliance with contract requirements.

The Construction Manager works closely with the contracting officer to correct contract deficiencies and unacceptable work. They independently resolve unique problems, review cost breakdowns and progress data, and may direct work discontinuance, referring recommendations to higher-level personnel for decisions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction projects, construction inspections, and construction surveillance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid US Government security clearance.
  • Extensive knowledge of industry trends, technology, codes, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), AutoCAD, and cost estimating software.
  • Strong analytical, critical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to lift more than 50lbs and endure prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or kneeling.
  • Ability to diagram designs both manually and with computer-aided drafting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections of major segments of complex construction projects, including materials, installation, and testing of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Coordinate with representatives on work scheduling, interpretation of plans and specifications, and selection of work methods.
  • Independently resolve unique problems involving interpretation of plans and specifications.
  • Direct the discontinuance of portions of work and refer recommendations to higher-level personnel.
  • Investigate and report on controversial situations that may lead to formal claims.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress schedules to identify delays or problems affecting construction.
  • Review cost breakdowns, progress measurement data, and field reports to compute periodic payments.
