Civil Carpenters construct, erect, install, fabricate, dismantle, and repair structures, formwork, and fixtures of wood, metal forms, and associated accessories. They study blueprints, sketches, or structural plans to determine materials like lumber or fiberboard and dimensions needed. Workers prepare layouts, mark lines, shape materials, and assemble components precisely.

Tasks include erecting frameworks, laying sub-flooring, building stairs, installing partitions, cabinet work, doors, frames, trim, and hardware. Civil Carpenters construct forms and chutes for concrete pouring, erect scaffolding, and place and finish concrete in formwork. They set grout forms for epoxy and cement grout while following drawings or plans.

Requirements

  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
  • NCCER preferred but not required
  • Background check and drug test required
  • Must be able to pass craft test and safety council courses in English
  • Written pre-employment qualification test
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
  • Hazard Communication orientation/test
  • Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Study blueprints, sketches or structural plans for type of material required and dimensions of structure or fixture
  • Select specified types of lumber or other materials
  • Prepare layouts including lines and grades
  • Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials
  • Shape materials to prescribed measurements
  • Assemble cut and shaped materials and fasten them together
  • Erect framework for structures and lay sub-flooring
  • Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete
