About this role

Qualus is seeking a Construction Manager to join our Program Management department, overseeing substation and transmission line construction projects. This role ensures that constructability meets both Qualus and client expectations for quality, compliance, safety, and budget.

Day-to-day responsibilities include aggressively managing and inspecting multiple electric contractor crews, facilitating electric infrastructure installation, and ensuring all safety standards and governmental regulations are met. The Construction Manager coordinates with customers on-site, manages outages, and performs weekly safety audits.

This position reports to the Project Manager and works closely with contractor supervision, third-party utilities, and permit agencies to maintain project momentum. The role requires frequent field decisions and documentation of job changes to ensure compliance across all systems.

Requirements

Thorough knowledge of company work, environmental, and safety practices, including a working knowledge of electric operations.
Ability to maintain or obtain switching and outage authorization.
In-depth knowledge of materials, construction standards, OSHA regulations, and safety requirements for electric distribution and substation construction.
Thorough knowledge of PC and job/work management applications including AS8, Atlas, Mobile Maps, and MS Office Suite.
Knowledgeable about distribution contracts and ensuring terms and technical specifications are met.
Experience coordinating with federal, state, and local agencies for construction notifications and compliance.

Responsibilities

Aggressively manages and inspects day-to-day activities of multiple electric contractor crews for substation and transmission line project work.
Facilitates installation of electric infrastructure and ensures all safety standards, company construction standards, and governmental regulations are met.
Manages work to ensure all performance objectives for cycle time and cost are on target.
Oversees and directs contractors performing electric cable installations and electric cut-ins.
Coordinates permit and work-with requirements with third-party utilities and permit agencies.
Makes field decisions regarding job changes and communicates them to the Supervisor and Program or Project Manager.
Performs weekly safety audits of crews and documents performance in the Asset Suite Safety Audit/Observation Tool.
Conducts job walk-down with customer and contractor at job completion and maintains customer coordination during the construction phase.
