About this role

Fife Council offers an Apprentice Plasterer position, temporary until August 2030, starting Monday 03 August 2026. This 36 hours per week role suits those entering the building trades. Applications close Wednesday 04 February 2026, with skills tests from 16 March to 03 April 2026.

Assist in preparing surfaces for plaster application, mixing materials, and applying plaster to walls and ceilings. Learn to smooth finishes using trowels and hawks under supervision. Support site tasks in council properties across Fife.

Join a team delivering construction maintenance for public buildings. Work at locations to be confirmed, following health and safety standards. Collaborate with experienced tradespeople on practical projects.

Progress through structured training with interviews between 20 April to 08 May 2026. Gain trade-specific skills over four years. Develop from basic assistance to advanced plastering techniques.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience of the plastering trade
  • Qualification grades or predicted grades included in supporting statement
  • Ability to outline how skills meet role criteria
  • Interest in construction and building trades
  • Physical ability for manual handling and working at heights
  • Understanding of basic health and safety in construction

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces by cleaning, hacking, and applying bonding agents
  • Mix plaster, render, and screed to required consistency
  • Apply plaster to walls and ceilings using trowel and hawk
  • Smooth and finish surfaces for level appearance
  • Assist in fixing plasterboard and coving
  • Support external rendering tasks
  • Use hand tools and equipment safely on site
  • Follow instructions from qualified plasterers
