We are seeking Carpenters with Heavy Highway experience for roadway and bridge projects in the Tidewater area of Virginia. Preferred candidates have experience with bridge form work.

Carpenters construct, erect, and repair structures using their own hand tools. They must be skilled with levels, read blueprints, and work while tied off to fall protection. Daily tasks include measuring, cutting, and shaping lumber to build concrete forms and assemble scaffolding.

Requirements

Completion of Carpenter Training Program or equivalent experience.
Experience in bridge form work (bridge form work, read blue prints, read rule).
Must have own hand tools.
Ability to read blueprints and use a rule.
Ability to work while tied off to fall protection.
Physical ability to climb wingwalls and retaining walls.
Skilled in use of necessary hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

Work while tied off to fall protection.
Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, or bridge plans.
Select, measure, cut, and shape lumber to prescribed measurements.
Construct and brace concrete-supporting forms using timbers, tie rods, and anchor bolts.
Set expansion dams and assemble wood deck forms.
Assist in pouring and finishing of concrete.
Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
Operate hand and power tools with skill and accuracy.
