Canadore College seeks a part-time Lab Technologist for the General Carpenter Pre-Apprenticeship program at the First Peoples’ Centre. This temporary role runs from June 15 to August 21, 2026, up to 24 hours per week at Commerce Court Campus in North Bay, ON. Duties focus on supporting hands-on carpentry training in a post-secondary environment.

Daily tasks include assisting with planning, organizing, and conducting demonstrations and experiments on correct procedures and theoretical principles in carpentry. Maintain shop equipment and tools in safe working condition while controlling supply inventory. Assist with student evaluation related to shop activities and perform other duties as assigned.

Work in-person on-campus within the First Peoples’ Centre, requiring reliable commute to North Bay, ON. Collaborate in a day-shift schedule supporting women in pre-apprenticeship carpentry training. Benefit from a college committed to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.

Requirements

  • Completion of a College Carpentry Program from an accredited educational institution or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years’ recent industry experience in all aspects of Carpentry/Building Construction Trade
  • Thorough knowledge of all carpentry tools, machinery and safety
  • Computer literacy and excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Previous experience in a post-secondary setting is an asset
  • Available for day shift
  • In-person, on-campus position with reliable commute to North Bay, ON

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, organizing and conducting demonstrations and experiments explaining correct procedures and theoretical principles
  • Maintain all shop equipment and tools in safe working condition
  • Control supply inventory for instructional supplies as needed
  • Assist with student evaluation in relation to shop activities
  • Demonstrate safe use of carpentry tools and machinery
  • Ensure compliance with carpentry safety protocols during shop sessions
  • Support hands-on carpentry training for pre-apprenticeship students
  • Perform other duties as assigned
