About this role
Reed Family Companies is growing and seeking a Swing Shift Plant Operator I for our VSS International Inc. facility. This role is central to our manufacturing and loading operations for chemicals, emulsified asphalt, and binder products.
Your day-to-day involves loading and unloading chemicals, emulsified asphalt, binder trucks, tack pots, spreader trucks, and railcars. You will also perform basic housekeeping duties, including cleaning up litter, spilled products, and maintaining the office and bathroom.
You will join a team with a great company and culture, participating in regular safety meetings and adhering to all environmental, health, and safety rules. The role requires working a 2pm to 10pm shift and conducting necessary weekend checks of the plant on a rotating basis.
This position offers the opportunity to apply 5S principles and grow within a company that values its people as its strategy. Ideal for someone who can self-start, motivate others, and work with little direction in a hands-on, industrial environment.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English
- Ability to use a calculator for basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Knowledge of basic hand and power tools
- Ability to learn and apply 5S principles
- Ability to self-start, motivate others, and work with little direction
- Ability to work in dirty and adverse work conditions
- Ability to conduct necessary weekend checks of the plant on a rotating basis
- Current state automobile driver's license and reliable vehicle
Responsibilities
- Work a 2pm - 10pm swing shift
- Load and unload chemicals, emulsified asphalt, binder trucks, tack pots, spreader trucks, and railcars
- Perform basic housekeeping duties: cleaning up litter, spilled products, office, bathroom, etc.
- Sweep building interiors
- Clean and store tools properly
- Participate in safety meetings
- Maintain basic written recordkeeping
- Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety rules, policies, and procedures
