About this role

Under general supervision of designated supervisor, the Senior Facilities Carpenter installs, maintains, and repairs building system finish components including painting, tile, doors, windows, trim, flooring, and wall systems. This role is responsible for producing the highest quality of building finish work while providing excellent customer service.

Respond to service calls and requests for operation, repair, maintenance, installation, and removal of various building finishes. Troubleshoot minor and complex finish issues, provide expert solutions, and utilize work management software to maintain accurate records of materials and time. Perform preventive maintenance and repair or replacement work on building finishes.

UNH Facilities operates 24/7/365, requiring flexibility for campus safety and emergency response. The Senior Facilities Carpenter acts as a department leader, mentoring Finish/Mechanical Technicians, and participates in project management meetings for renovations and new building plans. Demonstrated leadership qualities and support for the Facilities Forward culture contribute to a positive work environment.

Keep current on required safety trainings, code updates, and additional certifications. Seek professional development opportunities to stay knowledgeable of best practices and future trends. May oversee outside finish contractors and develop scopes of work, shaping building finish operations within a major university.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • DOT medical card if applicable based on assigned vehicle weight.
  • Minimum of 8 years combined education, certifications, and work experience in all aspects of building finishes, including paint, tile, block, basic and finish carpentry, windows, and screens.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor technicians in building finish work.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, safety requirements, and best practices in finishes.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair/replacement work on building finishes.
  • Update and maintain records in work management software and provide equipment condition assessments.
  • Mentor, develop, and train Finish/Mechanical Technicians and new employees.
  • Participate in project management meetings regarding building renovations and new building plans.
  • Follow all building codes and safety precautions; keep current on required safety trainings and certifications.
