About this role

The Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) oversees over $2 billion in capital programs and projects, including 5.5 million square feet of state buildings. As a Contractor Resident Engineer/Clerk of Works, you will monitor public construction projects statewide, ranging from new construction and renovations to environmental remediation and renewable energy installations.

Your daily work involves observing and documenting ongoing construction activities to track job progress and ensure contractor work complies with project plans and specifications. You will assist the Designer/Consultant Team in scheduling and coordinating all on-site testing to ensure tests are conducted properly.

You collaborate closely with the Designer, Contractor, and Project Manager to maintain quality control and enforce appropriate construction methods, safety requirements, and adherence to contract documents and codes, including accessibility guidelines. Accurate project record-keeping is a key part of your role, supporting DCAMM's commitment to fiscal responsibility and sustainability.

Requirements

  • Experience monitoring public construction projects or similar large-scale building work.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, procedures, and safety requirements relevant to building trades.
  • Ability to read and interpret project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Familiarity with building codes, regulations, and accessibility guidelines (e.g., ADA).
  • Strong record-keeping and documentation skills for daily activity logs and testing records.
  • Ability to coordinate with designers, contractors, and project managers to ensure quality control.
  • Commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in public construction contracting and workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor various public construction projects statewide, including CM@Risk, new construction, renovations, demolition, environmental remediation, and energy and water conservation projects.
  • Observe and document daily ongoing construction activities to monitor job progress and ensure contractor work complies with project plans and specifications.
  • Work with the Designer, Contractor, and Project Manager to maintain quality control and ensure appropriate construction methods, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Assist the Designer/Consultant Team to schedule and coordinate all on-site testing and ensure that all tests are conducted properly.
  • Maintain accurate project records and ensure adherence to contract documents and all related codes and regulations, including accessibility codes and guidelines.
  • Support the implementation of decarbonization and climate resilience initiatives in state facilities.
  • Identify and facilitate opportunities to repurpose underutilized state property for housing production.
