The Commercial Manager oversees all commercial operations for construction projects in London, ensuring cost control and contract compliance from bid to completion. This role is central to delivering projects within budget while maintaining Strabag's high standards. Responsibility spans procurement, subcontractor management, and financial reporting.

Day-to-day duties include managing procurement processes, negotiating subcontractor terms, and monitoring project budgets. The manager prepares detailed financial reports and advises on cost-saving opportunities. Close collaboration with project teams ensures aligned commercial objectives.

The role sits within a dynamic commercial department liaising with project managers, quantity surveyors, and legal advisors. Regular interaction with clients and suppliers requires strong communication and negotiation skills. Reporting to the Commercial Director, the manager contributes to strategic decisions on large infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in commercial management within the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of contract law and standard forms like JCT or FIDIC.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in cost management software and MS Office.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data and produce accurate reports.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and supply chain management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage contract administration and ensure compliance with company and legal standards.
  • Prepare and review cost estimates, budgets, and financial forecasts for construction projects.
  • Oversee procurement activities including sourcing materials and services at competitive rates.
  • Negotiate and manage subcontractor agreements, variations, and claims.
  • Monitor project costs and implement cost control measures to maintain profitability.
  • Prepare progress reports and present financial performance to senior management.
  • Coordinate with project teams to resolve commercial issues and mitigate risks.
