Join Swan Valley Co-op as a Summer Student Carpenter's Helper at our Home and Building (HABS) location in Swan River, MB. As a co-operative, we believe in working together to serve Western Canadians, delivering profits back to our communities and investing in sustainable growth.

In this role, you will assist the Carpenter and Installed Sales team by helping to build value-added projects such as garden sheds, pre-built buildings, and stair packages. Your day-to-day tasks include preparing layouts, cutting and measuring materials, installing doors, windows, drywall, cabinets, and stairs, as well as performing finish carpentry like trim and molding.

You will safely use a variety of tools including saws, drills, sanders, and nail guns, while adhering to our Co-op values of respect, integrity, community, and excellence. You will also assist the Supply and Install team as needed and help maintain department equipment and housekeeping standards.

This position offers valuable hands-on learning in a supportive environment where you can grow your carpentry skills. You will be part of a team that provides a range of products and services to support our member-owners and build Western Canadian communities together.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in training for carpentry
  • Reliable, dependable, and trustworthy
  • Working knowledge of tools, equipment, safety, and quality as related to carpentry and woodworking
  • Enjoys hands-on learning and can follow directions
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and stand for long periods (typical for construction work)
  • Basic understanding of power tools and their safe operation

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Carpenter with preparing layout, installation, repairing, finishing, and maintaining various structures, fixtures, and buildings
  • Design, cut, and measure materials for projects such as garden sheds, pre-built buildings, and stair packages
  • Install doors, windows, drywall, cabinets, stairs, and other fixtures
  • Perform finish carpentry tasks including trim, molding, and other detailed woodwork
  • Safely use various tools including saws, drills, sanders, and nail guns
  • Assist the Supply and Install team as required
  • Follow up on complaints, warranties, and claims as directed
  • Perform general housekeeping duties to ensure department cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards are met
