About this role

Under direction of the Manager, Maintenance Services for the Department of Facilities Services (DFS), and in collaboration with colleagues, provide maintenance services to support University operations. Services include painting, carpentry, roofing, masonry, cabinetry, drywall, windows and coverings, and flooring. Complete repairs and renovation work utilizing plans, specifications, and verbal instructions.

Respond to work order requests and supervisor's directions to perform painting, carpentry, roofing, masonry, cabinetry, drywall, window coverings, and flooring. Coordinate with internal colleagues and external vendors to ensure work proceeds on schedule with minimal impact to operations. Perform regular administrative tasks such as maintaining files, processing paperwork, and entering data.

Collaborate with DFS and other University departments to initiate and deliver professional, quality results in a timely manner. Effectively communicate to keep all parties well-informed. Assist other trades and complete tasks associated with special events.

Maintain the inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure availability and usability. Research, prepare, and present information as requested while scheduling and organizing assigned work. Uphold the University mission through work performed and obtain further trade-specific training as needed.

Requirements

  • Proof of legal U.S. working status
  • Graduation from high school or its equivalent
  • Three (3) years of applicable experience in facilities maintenance and/or commercial construction
  • Valid California Driver's license, acceptable DMV driving record, and insurable by University carrier
  • Strong English written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to successfully resolve issues
  • Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds, occasionally 100 pounds up and down stairs
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, traverse rugged terrain, and climb ladders and scaffolding
