About this role

Lead Carpenters lead a crew of 3 to 4 people in remote Alaska residential remodeling projects. They study job sites, plan work, and accurately take off construction materials. Experience in rural Alaska construction logistics is essential.

Daily tasks include estimating work and time required, building foundations, leveling buildings, and handling all phases of residential construction. This covers installation of windows, doors, insulation, sealing, flooring, siding, roof work, stairs, finish carpentry, cabinets, and countertops. A general understanding of electrical and plumbing is needed.

Leads manage materials and supplies for efficient job progression, prepare project labor coding on timesheets, and work with Human Resources and Transportation Director to hire, discipline, or fire onsite employees. They interact with the general public while maintaining a professional attitude. Frequent travel within the region occurs for projects.

Work happens in outdoor environments with travel by jet, small plane, four-wheeler, snow machine, or boat. Fluency in Yup’ik and English is strongly preferred. The role demands proficiency across residential construction phases in challenging rural settings.

Requirements

  • Proof of construction supervisory experience with minimum 4 years experience
  • Provide resume of previous employment with references
  • Show proficiency with residential construction
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Four years working in a carpenter position
  • Apprenticeship trade in construction or maintenance strongly preferred
  • Experience in and knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and use it
  • Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with good driving record

Responsibilities
