
About this role
OCU Connect seeks an experienced SHEQ Advisor for a project in Glasgow. The role supports development, implementation, and management of Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality systems. It ensures compliance with legal requirements, promotes a positive safety culture, and drives continuous improvement in SHEQ performance.
Day-to-day involves developing and monitoring safety policies compliant with legislation like the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Conduct site inspections, audits, incident investigations, and deliver inductions and toolbox talks. Manage health surveillance, environmental audits, and quality systems per ISO 9001 standards.
Collaborate with employees, contractors, OCU teams, and stakeholders on SHEQ matters. Liaise with regulatory bodies and participate in committee meetings. Provide guidance to operational teams to foster a strong SHEQ culture across sites.
Prepare reports on SHEQ performance trends and recommendations for management. Maintain records of audits, incidents, and training. Contribute to sustainable practices reducing waste, energy use, and carbon footprint for ongoing enhancements.
Requirements
- Experience supporting SHEQ systems in construction or utilities projects
- Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and environmental legislation
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Management System standards
- Ability to conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and audits
- Skills in incident investigation and root cause analysis
- Competence in delivering safety training and toolbox talks
- Understanding of occupational health programs and surveillance
- Experience liaising with regulators and stakeholders on SHEQ matters
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant legislation
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards and implement control measures
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, providing recommendations to prevent recurrence
- Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and training sessions to employees and contractors
- Support environmental policies, monitor performance, and promote sustainable practices
- Implement and maintain Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001 standards
- Conduct internal quality audits and investigate non-conformances
- Prepare and present SHEQ performance reports to management
