This role acts as a technical resource with experience in OSHA, USACE EM385-1-1, EPA, and industry standards.
The Safety Officer handles day-to-day implementation of project-specific Health and Safety Programs. They serve as a liaison between Project Managers, subcontractors, and clients. This field position requires extensive travel to various civil, HTRW, and USACE projects.
Onsite, the officer establishes professional relationships with clients, representatives, and field teams. They work with the Superintendent to deliver daily safety talks relevant to activities. All project documentation like Daily Reports, Safety Audits, and training records must be generated and maintained onsite.
Personnel receive appropriate safety training, medical surveillance, and equipment for tasks and regulations. Effective coaching ensures compliance with high-risk work practices. Employee-ownership provides a path to professional growth and diverse opportunities in a connected community.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 5 years continuous construction safety experience with USACE EM385-1-1
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint, and virtual meetings (Teams, Zoom)
- Experience in safety role such as Safety Officer or Coordinator
- Direct experience with high-risk work: excavation, heavy equipment, scaffolding, confined space, demolition, fall protection, LOTO, crane lifts, electrical, respiratory protection
- Experience in environmental investigations, remediation, or HTRW projects
- Working knowledge of USACE EM 385-1-1, Accident Prevention Plans, and Site Safety & Health Plans
- OSHA Construction Safety 30-hour training within last 5 years
- 40 Hour HAZWOPER and 8 Hour site supervisor training
Responsibilities
- Serve as the onsite Site Health & Safety Officer for USACE civil, HTRW, and other projects
- Establish excellent working relationships with clients, representatives, and field teams
- Deliver effective daily safety talks with the Superintendent using relevant content
- Generate and maintain project documentation including Daily Reports, Safety Audits, Meetings, and Training records
- Ensure all personnel have required safety training, medical surveillance, and equipment
- Provide effective coaching regarding safety practices and high-risk work
- Implement project-specific Health and Safety Programs daily
- Act as liaison between Project Managers, subcontractors, and clients
