About this role

The Carpenter performs general carpentry and assists with maintenance duties in Facility Maintenance. This role involves repairing and replacing defective equipment including door closets, seals, windows, door hardware, and similar items. It ensures campus facilities remain functional and safe through skilled trade work.

Daily tasks include reviewing specifications, blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layouts and determine dimensions and materials required. Constructs walls using wood/metal studs and sheetrock/plywood, installs suspended acoustic ceiling tiles with metal grid systems. Measures, cuts, and shapes materials using measuring tapes and power tools.

Repairs and replaces flooring materials, constructs miscellaneous millwork, and removes damaged parts of structures. Utilizes the college's work order system (CMMS) to note time spent and work performed. Communicates with contractors and vendors as needed while adhering to safety and health regulations.

Prepares work order materials by pulling from stock to meet technical requirements. Operates college vehicles and conducts routine preventive maintenance, notifying personnel of needed repairs. Performs other duties as assigned in a supportive maintenance environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least three (3) years of carpentry work experience required
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Windows environment, and internet research
  • Knowledge and experience in electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, and other maintenance skills
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade
