About this role

The Senior Carpenter performs journey-level and experienced carpentry maintenance and construction work on City facilities and spaces. Maintains buildings, public areas, and structures in good repair. Provides leadership for other carpenters and ensures quality of work delivered.

Performs skilled carpentry in fabrication and maintenance of wood structures and equipment. Assembles stages and risers for special events, repairs doors, frames, locks, masonry, tile, and restroom partitions. Installs and repairs chain link fences, performs bridge repair, concrete repair, and monitors park structures.

Provides leadership in various building maintenance activities to ensure safe, effective, and operational facilities. Coordinates job activities with other trades, responds to after-hours emergencies including weekends and holidays. Performs minor cabinetmaking, woodwork, drywall repair, constructs barricades for traffic control, and concrete work for sidewalks and retainer walls.

Calculates bids, reads floorplans, measures jobs, tracks work orders and progress. Assists with seasonal maintenance of facilities for good repair, safety, and functionality. Requirements

  • Three (3) years of carpentry and/or general construction experience
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record
  • Thorough knowledge of carpentry trade methods, practices, and techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of use of various hand tools, measuring instruments, and power driven equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of structures, fixtures, and application of wood, plywood, and wallboard
  • Thorough knowledge of city codes as it relates to the carpentry trade
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade
  • Ability to read blueprints, understand and follow oral and written instructions, and establish effective working relationships

  • Install and repair chain link fences, perform bridge repair, concrete repair, and monitor park structures
  • Coordinate job activities with other trades and respond to after-hours emergencies including weekends and holidays
  • Construct barricades for traffic control at public events and perform concrete work for sidewalks and retainer walls
  • Calculate bids, read floorplans, measure jobs, and track work orders and progress
  • Provide assistance with seasonal maintenance of facilities and work collaboratively with other trades
