About this role

Thiess seeks a Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Coordinator for a project-based role supporting the mining team. Provide health, safety and environmental support to project staff, workforce, and HSE departments. Offer advice to project staff and key stakeholders where required.

Coordinate daily HSE functions and support activities, including input into Thiess HSE data and incident management systems. Work independently and collaboratively with North American HSE team members and regional leadership. Warn the Regional HSE Director about process deficiencies or schedule slippage.

Be skilled in computer programs and developing databases, spreadsheets, presentations, and HSE literature. Maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders like engineering and operations, plus clients and contractors. Implement the Contractor Management System (CMS) and its HSE requirements.

Act as Thiess representative for environmental performance per ISO 14001 standards. Recognize areas for improvement and provide data-driven recommendations to HSE Supervisor and leadership. Contribute to sustainable resource solutions in North America's mining services, including Sudbury, Ontario, with regional expansion.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with North American HSE team
  • Skilled in computer programs and developing databases, spreadsheets, presentations and HSE literature
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 requirements for environmental performance
  • Experience with HSE data and incident management systems
  • Proficiency in identifying Critical Risks and verifying Critical Controls
  • Familiarity with Management of Change (MoC) processes
  • Ability to analyze workplace risks and implement controls
  • Competence in preparing HSE reports and literature

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance, support and supervision to personnel assigned to project HSE functions
  • Develop, consolidate and deliver accurate daily, weekly and monthly HSE reports
  • Deliver monthly regional reporting on all on-site HSE activities, events and performance trends
  • Lead and support identification of Critical Risks and verification of Critical Controls
  • Analyze workplace risks, implement controls, and develop effective corrective action plans
  • Actively participate in Management of Change (MoC) processes with HSE input
  • Maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders to implement Contractor Management System (CMS)
  • Recognize areas for improvement and provide data-driven recommendations to HSE leadership
