About this role

The carpenter performs construction remodels and general maintenance tasks on buildings, requiring practical skills and knowledge in trades such as carpentry, mechanical work, electrical work, plumbing, painting, and masonry. This on-site role focuses on commercial and federal building sites like schools.

Daily tasks include reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine materials, dimensions, and installation procedures. Carpenters measure, cut, shape, assemble, and install wood and other materials including drywall, plywood, laminates, and light-gauge metal framing.

Work involves installing and repairing doors, windows, framing, cabinetry, siding, flooring, and interior/exterior trim, as well as constructing frameworks, partitions, and structural components. Perform demolition and removal of damaged materials in preparation for repairs or new construction.

The environment requires working both indoors and outdoors, exposed to weather, equipment hazards, elevated areas, and noise. Maintain a safe, clean site by following OSHA regulations and using PPE like fall protection harnesses and hard hats.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Journey/Tradesman State License desired; completion of a registered apprenticeship desired
  • 10 years of experience in commercial building trades in general carpentry, rough carpentry, door installation, and interior systems
  • Experienced in all commercial and federal building construction with safety and code compliance
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, layouts, and construction documents and plans
  • Proficiency with power tools, hand tools, and layout tools
  • Basic computer skills, Outlook, Teams, and Timesheet entry
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled carpentry work in the construction, repair, and maintenance of structures and fixtures in accordance with contract requirements
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine materials, dimensions, and installation procedures
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and install wood and other materials such as drywall, plywood, laminates, and light-gauge metal framing
  • Install and repair doors, windows, framing, cabinetry, siding, flooring, and interior/exterior trim
  • Construct and repair frameworks, partitions, and structural components as required
  • Perform demolition and removal of damaged or obsolete materials in preparation for repairs or new construction
  • Other duties as assigned
