About this role

The Sr. Construction Manager is a People Manager position leading, mentoring, and coaching a team of skilled Construction Managers building data centers. You will manage a fast-moving, intelligent team and the regional construction program delivering data center capacity to support Amazon’s growth in the UK. This role is based in London with up to 50% travel to mainland Europe.

Dive deep into construction management, own the construction lifecycle from constructibility and proposal development to bid analysis, award, and onsite work. Inspire and think big about the construction management program while supporting efficient electrical and mechanical systems delivery to customers. Manage safety, cost, and quality of data center deliverables.

Join a diverse team of software, hardware, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers keeping the AWS cloud running. Collaborate across AWS to deliver highest standards for safety, security, and infinite capacity at lowest cost. Work on challenging problems with thousands of supply chain variables.

Hire and develop Construction Managers, coach and lead the team to solve fascinating construction problems. Think creatively to build innovative solutions reducing cost and duration without impacting quality or reliability. Perform complex business case analysis to justify project scope in high-level reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in critical data center operations including feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units
  • Experience in management
  • Experience as a general contractor and in vendor management including request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking
  • Experience hiring, developing, and managing high-performing technical teams
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and train subordinates
  • Ability to think creatively and build innovative solutions to reduce cost and duration with no impact on quality and reliability
  • Ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify project scope

Responsibilities

  • Hire and develop new Construction Managers
  • Coach, mentor, and lead a large Construction Management team
  • Provide strategic and tactical management of construction capacity delivery within region
  • Communicate and provide guidance to Finance on capital budgets
  • Coordinate with teams supporting data center development and launch
  • Develop and manage metrics quantifying regional performance
  • Coordinate with Business Development on land and facility acquisition
  • Manage the safety, cost, and quality of data center deliverable
