The Carpenter role focuses on constructing, maintaining, and repairing structured woodwork and related building components. This includes building special equipment of wood or other materials and operating powered woodworking machinery to fashion precisely fitted parts.

Daily work involves measuring, sawing, fitting, and installing structural woodwork such as hardware, fixed and mobile furniture, ceiling tiles, glass, plastic partitions, mirrors, and flooring. The position also requires erecting scaffolding, building forms, and creating millwork from blueprint drawings.

Additional duties include customizing and installing solid-surface products like Formica and Corian while maintaining clean work areas and ensuring tools and equipment remain ready for use. All tasks support ongoing facilities operations in a healthcare environment.

Team members work independently with supplied hand tools and tablet-based systems to complete assignments accurately and efficiently. The role offers steady engagement with varied construction and repair projects that utilize trade skills in an active facilities setting.

Requirements

  • HS/GED required
  • 5 years of experience; trade or vocational school graduation may reduce requirement to 4 years
  • Certification for powder-actuated cartridge tools
  • Ability to install wall and ceiling systems based off blueprint drawings
  • Proficient in millwork design standards and creation from blueprint drawings
  • Proficient in the customization and installation of solid-surface products
  • Ability to utilize tablet-based computer systems

Responsibilities

  • Constructs, maintains, installs, and repairs structural woodwork including hardware, furniture, ceiling tiles, glass, and specialty items
  • Builds special equipment of wood or other material such as display racks, shelves, cases, and stands
  • Erects scaffolding and builds forms for pouring concrete and similar applications
  • Operates power woodworking machinery including lathes, saws, planers, and sanders to cut and fashion parts
  • Installs wall and ceiling systems based off blueprint drawings
  • Creates millwork based off blueprint drawings while following millwork design standards
  • Customizes and installs solid-surface products such as Formica and Corian
  • Cleans work areas, tools, equipment, and machines while maintaining supplied work carts
