About this role

Archer Western is currently seeking a Carpenter for the Apperson Drive Bridge in Salem, VA. The role involves constructing, erecting, and installing structures made of wood, plywood, wallboard, and other materials. This uses carpentry hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machines on commercial, industrial, or heavy civil jobsites.

Daily tasks include measuring distances and marking guidelines on working surfaces to prepare layouts. Carpenters prepare, build, and install wooden structures aligned with prefabricated units for bridges, drain structures, walls, and more. They may assist with awnings and metal decking for concrete slabs.

Requirements

  • 3-5 Years Verifiable Experience Preferred
  • Ability to climb and maintain balance on scaffold/ladder
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and work in adverse weather conditions
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors
  • Strong work ethic and desire to learn
  • Good manual dexterity with standing, bending, kneeling, or sitting for long periods
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Measure distance and mark guidelines on working surface to prepare for laying down work
  • Prepare, build, and install wooden structures in line with prefabricated units to form bridges, drain structures, walls, and additional structures
  • Assist with installation of awnings and metal decking for concrete slabs
  • Use carpenter’s belt with carpentry hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery
  • Climb and maintain balance on scaffolds and ladders during construction
