About this role

We are seeking a dedicated Carpenter inc Locksmith to join our team at HMP Chelmsford, a Category B, Adult/Male prison. Join a supportive and driven family working Monday-Sunday to create a safe and nurturing environment. HMP Chelmsford runs like a self-contained city requiring hundreds to keep it functioning.

As the Facilities Maintenance Team, we are committed to driving the smooth and safe operation like a heart pumping blood through the body. Everything we do impacts every prisoner, employee, visitor, and wider to families and community. Your role ensures critical and time-bound services to HMPPS.

Requirements

  • Substantiated experience in similar role
  • Competency in use and operation of all associated power tools and machinery
  • Basic IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements
  • Up to date First Aid at Work Qualification
  • City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry or equivalent qualification or substantial experience
  • Good Health & Safety knowledge
  • Excellent organisational, time management and people skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform carpentry tasks using power tools and machinery
  • Carry out locksmith duties including lock maintenance and repairs
  • Maintain facilities in a secure prison environment
  • Ensure smooth operation of prison infrastructure
  • Collaborate with maintenance team on daily repairs
  • Apply health and safety knowledge in all work
  • Support safe environment for prisoners and staff
