We are seeking a dedicated Carpenter inc Locksmith to join our team at HMP Chelmsford, a Category B, Adult/Male prison. Join a supportive and driven family working Monday-Sunday to create a safe and nurturing environment. HMP Chelmsford runs like a self-contained city requiring hundreds to keep it functioning.
As the Facilities Maintenance Team, we are committed to driving the smooth and safe operation like a heart pumping blood through the body. Everything we do impacts every prisoner, employee, visitor, and wider to families and community. Your role ensures critical and time-bound services to HMPPS.

Requirements
- Substantiated experience in similar role
- Competency in use and operation of all associated power tools and machinery
- Basic IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Word
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements
- Up to date First Aid at Work Qualification
- City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry or equivalent qualification or substantial experience
- Good Health & Safety knowledge
- Excellent organisational, time management and people skills
Responsibilities
- Perform carpentry tasks using power tools and machinery
- Carry out locksmith duties including lock maintenance and repairs
- Maintain facilities in a secure prison environment
- Ensure smooth operation of prison infrastructure
- Collaborate with maintenance team on daily repairs
- Apply health and safety knowledge in all work
- Support safe environment for prisoners and staff
