
About this role
OCU Connect are looking for a talented and experienced SHEQ Advisor to work on projects in London and the South. The role supports the development, implementation, and management of Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality systems. It ensures compliance with legal requirements and industry standards while promoting a positive safety culture.
Day-to-day involves conducting regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards and implement control measures. You will investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, delivering safety inductions, toolbox talks, and training to employees and contractors. Health initiatives and environmental performance monitoring are key focuses.
Collaborate with operational teams, contractors, and stakeholders to foster a positive SHEQ culture. Liaise with regulatory bodies on environmental matters and participate in SHEQ committee meetings. Provide guidance on compliance with legislation like the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Contribute to continuous improvement through quality audits, performance reports, and corrective actions. Support sustainable practices to reduce waste and carbon footprint. Maintain accurate records and documentation for all SHEQ activities.
Requirements
- Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and related legislation
- Familiarity with Environmental Protection Act 1990
- Experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
- Ability to conduct safety, environmental, and quality audits
- Understanding of occupational health programs and health surveillance
- Competence in risk assessment and hazard identification
- NEBOSH or IOSH qualification
- Experience in construction or utilities sector SHEQ management
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant legislation
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement control measures
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, providing recommendations to prevent recurrence
- Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and other training sessions to employees and contractors
- Support development and implementation of environmental policies and procedures
- Monitor environmental performance and promote sustainable practices to reduce waste and energy consumption
- Support implementation and maintenance of Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001
- Prepare and present reports on SHEQ performance to management
