About this role

UIC Nappairit seeks a Carpenter/Finisher for a commercial construction project. Responsibilities include general construction, civil and form work, structural steel stud and shear wall framing, and roof assembly. Finish carpentry involves installing moisture and vapor barriers, metal siding, flashings, commercial doors and windows with hardware, cabinets, furnishings, and trim.

Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required. Shape or cut materials to specified measurements using hand tools, machines, or power saws. Measure and mark cutting lines on materials using ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.

Follow established safety rules, regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment. Knowledge of general construction techniques and safe working practices is essential. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and spec books, with basic understanding of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems.

Must be reliable and able to work with little supervision, willingness to be a team player and follow instructions. Have all necessary tools and reliable transportation. Excellent written and oral communications skills required for proficient performance.

Requirements

  • At least ten (10) years of verifiable carpentry experience, with a focus on new construction
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of general, basic construction techniques and safe working practices
  • Must be able to read and interpret blue prints, drawings and spec books
  • Have a basic understanding of interrelated systems such as the electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems
  • Must be reliable and able to work with little supervision
  • Must have all necessary tools and reliable transportation
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

Responsibilities

  • Verify trueness of structure, using plumb bob and level
  • Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, or power tools
  • Assemble and fasten materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools, wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue
  • Operate basic construction equipment such as forklifts and man-lifts
