About this role
Lead carpenters oversee crews of 3 to 4 people on residential remodeling projects in remote Alaska. They study job sites, plan work, and accurately take off construction materials. Estimating work amounts and time ensures efficient project execution.
Daily tasks cover all phases of residential construction, from building foundations and leveling structures to installing windows, doors, insulation, siding, roofing, stairs, cabinets, and countertops. Manage materials and supplies to keep jobs progressing smoothly. A general understanding of electrical and plumbing supports comprehensive work.
Supervise onsite teams by preparing project labor coding on timesheets and collaborating with Human Resources and the Transportation Director to hire, discipline, or terminate employees. Interact professionally with the general public. Understand construction logistics unique to rural Alaska.
Frequent regional travel occurs via jet, small plane, four-wheeler, snow machine, or boat for various projects. Work in outdoor environments requires PPE knowledge. Fluency in Yup’ik and English is strongly preferred for community engagement.
Requirements
- Proof of at least 4 years construction supervisory experience
- Resume of previous employment with references
- Proficiency with residential construction
- High school diploma or GED
- Four years working in a carpenter position
- Apprenticeship in construction or maintenance strongly preferred
- Knowledge of and experience using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with insurable driving record
