About this role

As a Regional Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor - Construction, you’ll be the go-to expert for HSW across multiple construction sites in the Lower North Island. You’ll work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, and contractors to ensure compliance and drive continuous improvement. This role fosters a culture of safety and wellbeing and is based in Wellington.

Your day-to-day involves leading site-based HSW practices aligned with Summerset’s HSW Management System. You’ll support site-specific safety plans, triage incidents, conduct audits and risk assessments, and champion wellbeing initiatives like Mates in Construction. Additional tasks include coaching teams, driving Donesafe usage, and presenting HSW reports to leadership.

Requirements

  • Relevant Health & Safety qualifications
  • 4+ years’ experience in a multi-site construction HSW role
  • Strong knowledge of NZ Health & Safety legislation
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess complex technical data
  • Proven ability to influence and engage diverse stakeholders
  • Confident and proactive approach to risk management, compliance, and wellbeing

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support site-based HSW practices aligned with Summerset’s HSW Management System
  • Support the development and implementation of site-specific safety plans (SSSPs) and contractor compliance
  • Triage all incidents within your portfolio and investigate high severity incidents to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments across allocated sites
  • Champion wellbeing initiatives including Mates in Construction
  • Coach and mentor site teams on risk management and HSW processes
  • Drive the use of Donesafe for incident reporting, contractor management, and risk tracking
  • Prepare and present HSW reports to senior leadership
