About this role

Lead carpenters must be able to lead a crew of 3 to 4 people. Remote Alaska residential remodeling experience is a plus. Study individual job sites, plan work, and accurately take off construction material while estimating amount of work and time required for jobs.

Build foundations and level buildings with experience in all phases of residential construction. Install windows, doors, insulation, sealing, flooring, siding, and perform roof work. Lay out and build stairs, complete finish carpentry, set cabinets and countertops, with general understanding of electrical and plumbing.

Manage materials and supplies to facilitate efficient progression of work. Understand construction logistics in rural Alaska. Work with Human Resources Department and Transportation Director to hire, discipline, and if necessary fire onsite employees.

Interact with the general public maintaining a professional attitude. Travel frequently within the region for projects. Prepare project labor coding on timesheets in outdoor environments, traveling by jet, small plane, four wheeler, snow machine, or boat.

Requirements

  • Proof of construction supervisory experience with minimum 4 years
  • Resume of previous employment with references
  • Proficiency with residential construction
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Four years working in a carpenter position
  • Apprenticeship trade in construction or maintenance strongly preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Fluency in Yup’ik and English strongly preferred
