About this role

We are seeking an experienced Refractory Installation Manager to join our team on a major industrial construction project in Los Mochis, Mexico. This site-based role handles the full execution, coordination, and delivery of refractory works, both self-performed and subcontracted. It covers large-scale facilities like ammonia, methanol, and petrochemical plants.

Manage the complete refractory scope, including material selection, design verification, application, and field installation per project specifications. Coordinate with the Mechanical Site Manager and Construction Manager for planning furnaces, reformers, reactors, and related equipment. Define critical work fronts, curing/drying schedules, and heat-up sequences to meet milestones and support commissioning.

Lead daily and weekly planning with supervisors, maintaining a 4-week lookahead schedule. Oversee teams and subcontractors, setting priorities, monitoring productivity, quality, and compliance. Coordinate meetings, document progress, and mentor supervisors for efficient execution.

Ensure adherence to industry standards like API 936, coordinating quality inspections, testing, and documentation. Manage interfaces with engineering, commissioning, HSE, enforcing safety procedures and regulatory compliance. Report progress, constraints, and performance to senior site management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience managing refractory works in complex industrial projects
  • Experience in petrochemical, ammonia, or methanol projects
  • Strong knowledge of refractory materials (castables, gunning, firebrick) and high-temperature equipment
  • Familiarity with API 936 or equivalent standards
  • Solid understanding of material behavior, thermal expansion, and installation techniques
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in process industries (oil & gas, petrochemical, pipelines)
  • Fluency in English (mandatory); Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete refractory scope, including material selection, design verification, application, and field installation in line with project specifications
  • Coordinate closely with the Mechanical Site Manager and Construction Manager in planning and executing refractory works for furnaces, reformers, reactors, and related equipment
  • Define critical work fronts, curing/drying schedules, and heat-up sequences to meet project milestones and support commissioning activities
  • Review and approve method statements, installation procedures, and subcontractor documentation
  • Lead daily and weekly planning with supervisors and maintain a 4-week lookahead schedule
  • Monitor installation productivity and implement corrective actions when needed
  • Oversee material logistics, including proper storage and shelf-life control of refractory materials
  • Coordinate with engineering, commissioning, HSE, and other disciplines, managing technical queries and RFIs
