About this role
At Stony Brook Medicine, our Carpenters are responsible for the construction and repair of structures and other items in the Health Sciences Center and adjacent grounds. Qualified candidates should demonstrate excellent intrapersonal skills and time management skills. They should have attention to detail and be able to work with all levels of the organization.
Carpenters build, repair and install counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, windows, building framework, roofs, and trim following instructions using tools of the carpentry trade. They work with materials like sheet metal, plastics or aluminum, install ceiling and floor tiles, and perform general millwork. They maintain shop machinery and control inventory of tools and equipment.
As assigned, Carpenters supervise and instruct others in construction and repair, assign work to maintenance staff, and lay out projects including cutting roof trusses and stairs. They draw rough sketches or prepare plans to scale and recommend materials to supervisors. They observe and inspect work to ensure it is done properly.
