About this role

This job assumes responsibility for following blueprints, color charts, and schematics using correct tools of the trade to complete carpentry and cabinet making assignments. It involves performing general maintenance duties and assisting others in mechanical and carpentry-related tasks. Builds and repairs wooden fixtures used in buildings.

Uses woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, and power tools to complete assignments. Performs general construction repairs including demolition and installation. Completes Preventive Maintenance inspections and investigates maintenance requests using initiative and judgment.

Assists co-workers, follows up on tasks, and performs duties as assigned with minimal supervision. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and customer service skills while working effectively under stress. Properly cares for and uses tools of the trade.

Remains onsite throughout severe weather emergencies or disasters as assigned. Stays knowledgeable on federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years’ experience installing materials to walls including pre-hung doors, cabinets, or related experience, or completion of the Ochsner Apprenticeship program
  • Strong time management skills and self-directed
  • Knowledge and experience in all phases of construction
  • Knowledge of different kinds of woods, laminates, glues, and adhesives for woodworking
  • Read, write, draw, measure, and interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Ability to use the correct tools to accomplish the job
  • Work with minimal or no supervision
