About this role
This 18-month Plasterer position with possible extension involves preparing and applying plastering materials to interior and exterior surfaces under supervision. Tasks include handling fireproofing, soundproofing, cement stucco, and E.I.F.S. stucco. Perform related work in accordance with plans and specifications.
Daily duties encompass using a hawk and trowel to apply materials to walls, ceilings, piers, and columns. Plaster partition walls, patch damaged areas, tape sheet rock, and repair sheet rock walls. Set up and work on scaffolds while maintaining records.
Supervise assigned personnel in a New York City Housing Authority environment. Open to NYCHA employees for promotion or transfer after one year in current title and location. NYCHA residents are encouraged to apply.
Candidates must pass a practical exam applying hard troweled plaster finish on walls and ceiling. Wear full Plasterer's uniform and bring tools for the 2.5-hour test. Qualified persons with disabilities eligible under 55-a Program.
Requirements
- Three years of full-time satisfactory experience performing plastering work
- Or at least one and half years of full-time satisfactory plastering experience plus apprentice or approved trade school training equivalent to three years total
- Six months of acceptable experience credited for each year of apprentice or vocational high school training
- Pass practical exam: apply hard troweled plaster finish on two walls and ceiling of booth
- Make walls and ceiling straight and true with three finished corners, void of imperfections
- Wear full Plasterer's uniform and bring full set of plaster tools for 2.5-hour exam
- For NYCHA employees: one year at current location and in current title and level
