About this role
Under supervision, Plasterers prepare and apply plastering materials to interior and exterior surfaces and perform related work. This includes fireproofing, soundproofing, all types of cement stucco, and E.I.F.S. stucco. They ensure all work aligns with plans and specifications.
Using a hawk and trowel, apply plastering materials to walls, ceilings, piers, and columns. Plaster partition walls and patch areas with limited damage. Tape sheetrock and repair damaged sheetrock walls while setting up and working on scaffolds.
Supervise assigned personnel and maintain records of work performed. Travel to developments within Manhattan Neighborhood 04, including Amsterdam, Douglass, Dehostos, and Straus, as required by the Neighborhood Administrator. Perform duties in assigned neighborhoods efficiently.
For NYCHA employees, this promotional opportunity requires one year in current title, level, and location. Candidates must pass a practical exam applying hard trowelled plaster finish to a booth's walls and ceiling. NYCHA offers medical coverage choices, deferred compensation, and a defined pension plan.
Requirements
- Three years of full-time satisfactory experience performing plastering work
- Or at least one and a half years of full-time satisfactory plastering experience plus sufficient apprentice experience or approved trade/vocational school training equivalent to three years total
- Six months of acceptable experience credited for each year of apprentice or approved trade/vocational high school training
- Pass a practical exam applying hard trowelled plaster finish on two walls and ceiling of a plastering booth
- Complete practical exam booth to designated size, void of imperfections, straight and true with three finished corners in 2 hours 30 minutes
- Wear full Plasterers uniform and bring full set of plaster tools for practical exam
