About this role

Archer Western is seeking a Bridge Carpenter for the TSENC NC197 PDB project in Burnsville, NC. This role constructs, erects, and installs structures made of wood, plywood, wallboard, and other materials using carpentry hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machines on heavy civil jobsites.

Daily tasks include measuring distances and marking guidelines on working surfaces to prepare layouts. Bridge Carpenters build and install wooden structures aligned with prefabricated units to form bridges, drainage structures, walls, and more, while assisting with awnings and metal decking for concrete slabs when needed.

Work occurs on commercial, industrial, or heavy civil projects where employees collaborate with co-workers and supervisors to ensure proper project completion. All team members must comply with safety policies and procedures while enduring adverse weather and physical demands like lifting up to 50 lbs.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years verifiable experience preferred
  • Ability to climb and maintain balance on scaffold or ladder
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in adverse weather conditions
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure projects are completed properly
  • Strong work ethic and desire to learn
  • Good manual dexterity; able to stand, bend, kneel, or sit for long periods
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Measure distances and mark guidelines on working surfaces to prepare for laying down work
  • Prepare, build, and install wooden structures aligned with prefabricated units to form bridges, drainage structures, walls, and additional structures
  • Assist with installation of awnings and metal decking for concrete slabs (if decking is removed)
  • Use carpenter’s belt with carpentry hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery
  • Erect formwork and falsework for bridge concrete pours
  • Climb scaffolds and ladders to install bridge components at height
