Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager, the Commercial Manager – Subcontracts & Supply manages downstream commercial, procurement and subcontracting activities across bids and project set-up. The role ensures commercial governance, competitive sourcing, and efficient subcontract formation while providing commercial advice and supporting tender development. It oversees vendor management processes and aligns with UGL commercial frameworks.
A day in the role involves leading and developing a small downstream commercial/procurement team with workload allocation, coaching, and quality assurance. Responsibilities include end-to-end procurement for bids, preparing RFx documentation, coordinating supplier engagement, and conducting commercial evaluations. Vendor and supply chain management incorporates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander initiatives.
The role supports continuous improvement across procurement and commercial systems while providing general support to project delivery teams. Requirements
- Experience in commercial, procurement or subcontract management within engineering, construction or utilities
- Strong understanding of subcontract formation and commercial evaluation processes
- Experience leading or coaching small teams
- Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Law, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Procurement or equivalent experience (preferred)
- Strong leadership
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a small downstream commercial/procurement team, ensuring workload allocation, coaching and quality assurance

- Prepare and issue RFx documentation, coordinate supplier engagement, and conduct commercial evaluations
- Manage vendor and supply chain including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and other social initiatives
- Support continuous improvement across procurement and commercial systems and processes
- Provide commercial advice and support tender development
- Oversee vendor management processes and ensure alignment with UGL commercial frameworks
