About this role

Wharton-Smith is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager with a commercial construction background for the Palm Beach Gardens area. The role oversees every stage of the construction process from scope development through project closeout. The focus is on delivering projects on time and on budget while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Daily work includes setting up project cost accounting, developing job schedules, and negotiating major subcontractor agreements and material purchase orders. The position manages change orders, tracks submittals and shop drawings, and reviews subcontractor pay applications. Regular jobsite visits ensure effective supervision, production planning, and safety compliance.

The role builds strong relationships with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors using a Doer/Seller model. It requires cross-functional collaboration with preconstruction, marketing, and other departments. The position also coaches and mentors team members at varying career stages to support growth and maintain team morale.

Additional duties involve managing startup and commissioning, providing owner training, and delivering contract close-out documents. Project financial performance and major issues are reported to the Division Manager. The position ensures successful resolution of disputes with owners, vendors, and subcontractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or other relevant degree.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Developing leader and team player with five plus years of experience in engineering, construction, or related field.
  • Proven success in the completion of multimillion-dollar projects.
  • Proficiency with computer-based CPM Scheduling Programs and Construction Management Software.

Responsibilities

  • Manage large scale projects and/or multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring on-time and on-budget execution.
  • Build strong relationships with clients/owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to support repeat business.
  • Set up and maintain project cost accounting and develop the Schedule of Values for monthly payment applications.
  • Develop and maintain job schedules and partner with Preconstruction on value engineering and proposal generation.
  • Negotiate major subcontractor agreements, equipment/material purchase orders, and assist with contract modifications.
  • Review and approve subcontractor pay applications, track change management, and monitor submittal and purchase order processes.
  • Visit jobsites regularly to review site supervision, job progress, quality of work, and safety performance.
  • Manage change orders and disputed claims with owners and resolve major disputes with vendors and subcontractors.
