About this role

WIN Waste Innovations is seeking an Assistant Plant Operator to operate boilers and auxiliary plant equipment throughout the facility. The role requires making necessary adjustments to maintain safety, efficient continuous operations, and environmental compliance.

Daily work involves assisting the Plant Operator with field operations, investigating instrument changes, and performing regular turbine, generator, and APC inspections. The position adapts to changing plant conditions to maximize safety and minimize downtime.

Operators run the demineralization system, conduct water testing and treatment, and adjust the APC system for optimal performance. Accurate documentation on logs supports problem tracking and communicates plant status to the team.

The role requires completing corporate and plant training programs while maintaining clean work areas. Positive interactions with co-workers, vendors, and management support a productive environment focused on reliable plant performance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (accredited)
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree or equivalent is desirable
  • 2 years working in a power plant operation or 3 years related experience
  • Mechanical skills sufficient to perform varied mechanical tasks such as replacement of shear pins and valve repacking
  • Knowledge and understanding of the operation of a steam generating power plant
  • Licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies
  • Massachusetts 3rd Engineer's and Massachusetts Hoisting License: 1D / 2C or ability to obtain within 9 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Plant Operator in the daily operation and maintenance of the plant in the field
  • Investigate changes in instrument readings and equipment operation and notify supervisors of inconsistencies
  • Make required turbine/generator and APC inspections regularly and recognize operating difficulties
  • Document on log comments that facilitate problem tracking and maintain clear, accurate logs
  • Operate all aspects of the demineralization system and perform water testing and treatment
  • Adjust the APC system so performance meets or exceeds facility averages
  • Maintain work areas in a clean, neat, and orderly condition at all times
  • Complete the Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the prescribed time frame
