About this role

WSP USA seeks a Project Officer/Construction Manager in New York City supporting School Construction Authority. Provide administration and coordination for design and construction of complex, highly visible projects under senior SCA Project Officer guidance. Ensure quality, high standards, and compliance by consultants and vendors.

Manage project scope, schedule, and budget while making timely decisions to expedite construction. Monitor schedules, direct preparation of planning and design timelines, and take actions for on-schedule, within-budget completion. Correct design and construction errors early in the process.

Interface routinely with contractors, construction managers, local school personnel, and SCA senior managers on project issues. Resolve problems from field reports by architects and construction staff. Work with architect/engineer of record on change orders, contract interpretations, and shop drawing approvals.

Provide guidance to lower-level Project Officers and participate in developing project procedures. Exercise independent judgment for on-site change order decisions and negotiate with contractors. Visit job sites, issue compliance directives, and advise on claims, liquidated damages, and enforcement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • 5-7 years of full-time, progressively responsible work as a technical specialist in construction and design fields
  • At least two years involving management responsibilities
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety
  • Ability to abide by health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies
  • Responsible and ethical decision-making adhering to Code of Conduct
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout New York City
  • Availability for afterhours and weekend coverage as needed
