Pepper Construction is a national general contracting and construction management firm with offices in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio. The company serves private sector clients by combining national resources with a local hands-on approach. Carpenters support construction of commercial buildings including offices, schools, religious facilities, and health care facilities.

Carpenters build forms, bracing, shoring, and other support structures on commercial projects. Daily work includes erecting, installing, and repairing structures made of wood, steel, aluminum, or other materials. Tasks also cover wrecking of formwork, decking installation, and concrete pour watching.

Work occurs on active job sites with hours from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. that may vary due to daylight and project needs. Overtime may be required. Crews handle layout, blueprint reading, and operation of power tools, lasers, and heavy equipment signaling.

Requirements

  • Must be a union member or contact the Carpenter's union to sign up prior to applying
  • Experience in commercial construction building forms and support structures
  • Ability to read blueprints and perform layout of projects and materials
  • Skilled in operation of power tools, lasers, and heavy equipment signaling
  • Capable of installing wood, steel, aluminum, and composite materials
  • Proficient with transit, optical level, and grade stake setting

Responsibilities

  • Build forms, bracing, shoring, and other support structures
  • Erect, install, and repair structures, fixtures, false work, and formwork
  • Perform layout of projects and materials using transit, optical level, and laser
  • Read blueprints and set batter boards and grade stakes
  • Operate power tools, power equipment, cutting torches, and welding equipment
  • Install doors, hardware, ceilings, wall board, siding, and trim work
  • Handle rigging, signaling of heavy equipment, and driving of piling
  • Erect scaffolding, ladders, handrails, and temporary structures
