About this role

At CML we are looking for a qualified Skilled Operative with COSS / PIC competency to work on our Network Rail contracts within our established team based in Leeds. You will be part of a successful and growing business based across the UK with over 30 years’ worth of expertise in the Civil Engineering sector. As a Controller of Site Safety / Person In Charge, work in a safe manner following appropriate procedures and instructions at all times. Promote and supervise the safe working of all team members on site. Undertake railway maintenance work including civils and earthworks on multiple frameworks for Network Rail.

Undertake all construction duties as directed, including de-vegetation, scour works, machine and plant operation and drainage. Ensure all vehicles, materials, tools and plant equipment under your control are fit for use. Discuss all aspects of your work with the General Foreman / Site Manager where safety can be improved.

Mentor General Operatives and less experienced team members in work tasks. Assist with administering site paperwork for daily and weekly submissions to Head Office. Encourage collaboration within your team to utilise skill sets and meet deadlines effectively.

Requirements

  • PTS – Essential
  • COSS – Essential
  • Experience in general construction in Civil Engineering and Rail sector – Essential
  • Ability and willingness to regularly work away from home, as well as on nights and weekends – Essential
  • SSSTS - Highly Desirable
  • CSCS, PASMA, IPAF, First Aid
  • Experience in small tools, de-vegetation, scour works, 360 Excavator Operator, Dumper Driver
  • Experience in drainage, plant operator, confined spaces

Responsibilities

  • Work in a safe manner following appropriate procedures and instructions at all times
  • Promote and supervise the safe working of all team members on site
  • Undertake construction duties including de-vegetation, scour works, machine and plant operation and drainage
  • Ensure all vehicles, materials, tools and plant equipment are fit for use and report defects immediately
  • Correctly use and maintain all PPE provided and request replacements where needed
  • Mentor General Operatives and less experienced team members in work tasks
  • Assist with administering site paperwork for daily and weekly submissions to Head Office
  • Encourage collaboration within the team to utilise skill sets and meet deadlines
