About this role

At SP Energy Networks, our focus is on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. Due to continued growth and significant investment across our Transmission business, opportunities exist for Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors. We are constructing high voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea electricity links with SP Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission.

Working as a key part of project teams, you’ll oversee commercial activities from preparing and evaluating tenders for significant packages of work to administering high value contracts throughout construction. You will handle a range of contracts including bespoke EPC FIDIC contracts and NEC4 contracts. This role supports safe, secure, and sustainable delivery for communities.

As part of a collaborative team, expect site visits from Edinburgh Park alongside office-based work in a hybrid model. You’ll engage with partners and stakeholders in commercial meetings, managing advance warnings, variations, and change control processes. Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor (consultancy or contracting)
  • Strong commercial acumen and knowledge of procurement and cost management
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience
  • MRICS status (Desirable)
  • Transmission or utilities sector experience (Desirable)
  • Familiarity with a range of Contract forms including FIDIC and NEC3/NEC4
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Full UK Driving Licence – mandatory (occasional travel to sites)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tender documents and negotiate tender prices, payment schedules and terms and conditions
  • Produce monthly valuations, commercial reports, and financial updates
  • Apply contractual levers including management of advance warnings, variations and change control processes
  • Attend or lead commercial meetings with partners and stakeholders
  • Agree final accounts and maintain accurate commercial records
  • Ensure compliance with internal processes and industry standards
  • Manage and mentor junior staff (senior level)
